Carbondale Mayor Asks For Sales Tax Increase

In Carbondale, the mayor is suggesting a tax increase to help pay for a shortfall in the Public Employee Pension Fund.

Joel Fritzler proposed a 0.25 increase to the sales taxthat would last for five years at Tuesday night's city council meeting. Currently, Carbondale’s sales tax sits at 8.25 percent.

Fritzler says the money raised from the increase will also assist in the restoration of existing community facilities and resources.
