Motion Filed To Excavate Herrin Cemetary

In Herrin, attorneys have filed a motion to excavate some plots at the Herrin Cemetery.
The motion was filed on behalf of author Scott Doody and Herrin City Attorney John Brewster and says only specific sites will be excavated.
Doody and researchers from Eastern Illinois University want to search the site for victims of the 1922 Herrin Massacre, where dozens of scabs at the Southern Illinois Coal Company were shot and killed during a United Mine Workers of America strike.
Notice of the motion has been given to owners of burial spaces that could be impacted.
