In Mt. Vernon, officials are moving forward with a plan to build a new high school.
The Mt. Vernon school board and the Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce held a meeting last night with the public to answer questions about whether the new school will results in higher taxes.
School officials say taxes shouldn’t go up for the $72-million facility, but the school needs to raise $4-million to pay for rising costs. School officials say they can sell property to cover that amount.
The new high school is expected to break ground in January and will hold its first classes in the Fall of 2015.
