Vets Lose Beer Bid

A veteran’s group has lost its bid to reclaim the rights to sell beer at the DuQuoin State Fair.

DuQuoin landmark restaurant Alongi’s won the bidding to run the beer tent for the second year in a row.

The Combined Veterans Association had sold beer at the fair for years and used the money to donate to area charities including The Women’s Center in Carbondale and the Anna Veterans’ Home.

But state rules were changed last year to allow for more open bidding, and Alongi’s won the contract.
