Street Machine Nationals

The Street Machine Nationals are returning to Du Quoin this weekend after a three-year hiatus.
The festivities start at 10 a.m. today and 9 a.m. tomorrow. Tickets are available for single-day passes, weekend passes as well as tickets to a special after-party at the Fairgrounds.
Du Quoin State Fairground Manager John Rednour Jr. says the after-party and on-site camping is meant to ease congestion in the area.
"In the past, when the actual car show was over at the end of the day, everybody was on the streets. Now we have an after-hours event that they're able to go to and stay on the [Fairgrounds], and that way they don't block the roads downtown. But the ones who want to go out, go to dinner, go shopping or anything else, they can still do that."
Police will be stepping up enforcement efforts. Police in Du Quoin are instituting a “No Cruising” policy, meaning the cops will pull you over if they see you pass the same checkpoint numerous times. Police in Carbondale, Jackson and Williamson County will also be stepping up enforcement.
