West Nile

The first signs of West Nile are popping up in southern Illinois.

The virus has been confirmed in batches found in Tamaroa and East St. Louis. IDPH Spokeswoman Melany Arnold says the West Nile season has been slow so far, and the wet weather is part of the reason why.

Last year, West Nile was found in 55 Illinois counties, infecting 290 people and killing 12.
