West Frankfort Storm

In West Frankfort, residents are cleaning up after a storm slammed into the town yesterday afternoon.

Homeowner Becky Murphy says when the storm hit, she scrambled to get her family to safety.

“Get out here right now, something’s not good. And that’s when the limbs were falling, the hail was hitting, the wind… and it was like where we couldn’t hear each other hardly.”

The National Weather Service says at least 2.5 inches fell in West Frankfort, and the storm produced flash flooding along with dime-sized hail.

Street commissioner Tara Chambers says the city’s street department is ready to help with cleanup.

“West Frankfort offers free yard debris or yard waster pickup to any residents in the city limits. All they have to do is pull it to the curb and call city hall,” she said.

The number for City Hall is 618-932-3262.
