Not Reporting Their Finances

Illinois Comptroller Judy Baar Topinka says the village of Washington Park hasn't submitted necessary financial reports for seven years.
Topinka said on Thursday that she's asked the Illinois attorney general to investigate. Local governments inIllinois are required to final annual financial reports, audits and reports on tax increment financing.
Topinka says her office tried to bring Washington Park into compliance. When that failed the comptroller retained an independent auditing firm to look into the village's records. But Topinka says the village didn't complete the audit.
Village attorney Eric Evans says the previous financial documents are missing. He says new administrators and a new village president will "do everything possible to comply with state law going forward."
