Williamson County will build a new $266,000 morgue rather than renew a lease on a current site on federal property.
The county board recently accepted a bid for the new building that's expected to be built within months.
The location on the county highway department's property would replace the morgue's current spot on federally owned land at the Crab Orchard National Wildlife Refuge.
The new building will feature the latest equipment for autopsy procedures, as well as more space for cadavers.
The coroner's office is currently located in the county's administration building. The cost of the new building is $266,000 dollars.
