Organizers of a yearly festival honoring Superman in the southern Illinois city that claims the Man of Steel as its favorite son are hoping to smash a world record.
Planners of the Superman Celebration in Metropolis have their eyes set on entering the record books for the most people dressed as the superhero at one time.
The mark now is 437, helped by workers of a company in Alberta, Canada.
The Metropolis festival is to get under way Thursday, and it will have some star power. Margot Kidder, who played Lois Lane in the "Superman" films, will be there Friday and Saturday. Michael Rosenbaum, who starred as Lex Luthor on television's "Smallville, will sign autographs Saturday.
