Several events are planned for the Memorial Day holiday.
In Carbondale, city officials will hold a ceremony at 10 a.m. at Woodlawn Ceremony, where the state’s first Memorial Day ceremony was held in 1866.
In Carterville, the Lioness Club is hosting its fourth annual Military Salute. Visitors can walk along the paved path at Cannon Park, which will be lined with hundreds of flags.
In Energy, a memorial balloon launch will be held at 10 a.m. today at the Egyptian Memorial Garden, on Route 148 just north of Rt. 13.
In Herrin, the city will hold it’s annual Memorial Day service in front of the Doughboy statue, across the street from the City Hall on the 300 block of North Park Avenue. The service begins at 9 a.m.
In Marion, city officials will join the Marion VFW for a ceremony at 11 a.m. at Rose Hill Ceremony, at the intersection of West DeYoung and Court Street.
In Murphysboro, the American Legion Paul Stout Post 127 will host a service at the Veterans Memorial at 1700 Gartside St.
