A DuQuoin woman will see three years in jail for accidentally drowning her newborn child.
25-year-old Casey Parnell was sentenced yesterday to a class three felony count of involuntary manslaughter. Along with three years in jail, Parnell will serve one year of supervised release and undergo alcohol and drug counseling.
She pled guilty in March to giving birth to her baby, which she thought was already deceased, in a toilet at what police call a crack-cocaine party. A forensic pathologist says the baby died after it was wrapped in a towel and placed in a garbage bag.
