Murder Charges

UPDATE 10:29 A.M.: Twardoski pleads not guilty to all four counts. He is still being held in Randolph County Jail without bond, and he will be represented by a public defender.

ORIGINAL STORY: 33-year-old Derrick Twardoski is set to make his first appearance in Randolph County court Monday. He is the man accused of starting the house fire in Percy that killed four children.
Twardoski was charged on Friday with four first-degree murder counts linked to the blaze early Friday morning.
State's Attorney Jeremy Walker says he doesn't consider the fire random, though he's declined to detail what led investigators to Twardoski or any relationship he may have had with the victims.
Authorities say the dead included siblings 12-year-old Ethan, nine-year-old Kailey, and five-year-old twins Brandon and Landon Owen.
A 6-year-old child was treated at a hospital for smoke inhalation, and the children's parents and an 18-year-old woman escaped the fire.
Services for the children will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Steeleville, followed by burial in the church cemetery.
Twardoski is jailed without bond, pending his first court appearance Monday.
