Illinois lawmakers who want to expand gambling are hoping the third time is a charm.
Gov. Pat Quinn has twice rejected plans that would add more casinos, saying the plans didn't contain enough ethical safeguards. But he signaled in his March budget address that he's more open to the idea now than ever before.
Lawmakers have responded with a new proposal that bans political contributions from the gambling industry and adds more oversight.
However, the proposal also contains some new items. That includes a provision for Internet gambling in the state, which only a handful of states do.
Quinn says there are too many questions about online gambling and there'll be no gambling expansion until lawmakers overhaul the state's pension system.
