An investigation into Johnston City Police Chief Vernon Campbell leads to no charges.
Mayor Jim Mitchell says the incident occurred in the first week of February. Another police officer resigned and dropped his badge on a desk in city hall. Campbell approached the officer because he still saw state property that needed to be returned.
An eyewitness gave a written statement in the investigation that says Campbell did nothing to constitute assault or battery. He will not be suspended or fired from his post.
