2nd Congressional Race

Former Congressman Debbie Halvorson is blasting another top candidate in the race to replace former Congressman Jesse Jackson Jr. over super PAC money.

New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg's Independence USA has run ads that target Halvorson and state Sen. Toi Hutchinson, who dropped out and put her support behind former state Rep. Robin Kelly.

Kelly supports an assault weapons ban.

Halvorson on Monday accused Bloomberg of buying an election and being in contact with Kelly. Super PACS can spend unlimited money but can't work with campaigns. Halvorson called for an investigation.

Kelly called Halvorson's comments unsubstantiated. Independence USA says Bloomberg is committed to getting guns off the streets.

Also Monday, candidates attended an AARP-hosted debate and Kelly picked up a Service Employees International Union endorsement.

The primary is Feb. 26.
