Return Oil and Paint for Free

A free paint and motor oil collection will be held in Murphysboro at the Southern Illinois Airport on Saturday, November 10, 2012. This rain or shine event will help residents safely dispose of paint and motor oil. Residents can drop off items at the site on the date of the event between 8 a.m. - 2 p.m. only. To keep wait times short, we encourage participants to consolidate loads with their friends and neighbors.

Only these items will be accepted at the collection: latex & oil-based paint, spray paint,
acrylic paint, motor oil, antifreeze, old gasoline and kerosene. Do NOT bring in empty paint cans or motor oil containers, please dispose of them in your regular trash. According to Kerri Gale, Jackson County Recycling Coordinator, “Paint and motor oil are the two items, by volume, that we received most at our household chemical collection events. The November 10 event specifically targets those two materials for proper disposal.”

No business, industrial, or government wastes will be accepted. No containers larger than five gallons will be accepted. For all other items watch for the Household Chemical Collection event in 2013.

The event is being sponsored by Jackson County Health Department, Southern Illinois Airport, and Jackson County Board. Please contact Jackson County Health Department at 684-3143, ext. 128 for more information, or visit www.RecycleJacksonCounty.org.
