Officials say a 14-year veteran of the DuQuoin State Fair is the new manager.
The Illinois Department of Agriculture announced Friday that 47-year-old Shannon Woodworth of West Frankfort will lead the late-summer event which annually follows the Illinois State Fair in Springfield.
Woodworth began his tenure with the DuQuoin fair as a contractual worker in 1999 for then-manager Sammye Frank.
Woodworth says the event is "an incredible economic engine for all of southern Illinois."
He is an award-winning newspaper reporter, photographer, and marketing professional.
As a volunteer, he has overseen the five-year-old Black-Diamond Harley-Davidson Scholarship program — helping give out more than $250,000 to graduating high school seniors in southern Illinois.
Woodworth is an avid hunter and fisherman who created his own catfish bait.
