New legislation proposed by State Rep. Jay Hoffman would split up the SIU Carbondale and Edwardsville campuses.
Hoffman proposed the bill to the Illinois House Rules Committee yesterday.
House Bill 3389 would abolish the current Board of Trustees and create two separate boards for Carbondale and Edwardsville.
The SIU School of Medicine in Springfield would be included with Edwardsville.
Hoffman proposed similar legislation in 2003, and a similar bill was introduced by Rep. Thomas Holbrook in 2005.
