SIU is expected to propose a 5-percent tuition hike at its next Board of Trustees meeting.
The proposal would increase incoming undergraduatre tuition, fees and housing by $862 next year. Graduate students would see an increase of $619 per year.
Proposals will be heard at the next meeting on the 28th, but a vote isn’t expected until May.
School officials say the tuition increases are to help offset the lack of state money the school has received.
Rend Lake College also approved a $2 increase per credit hour last week, with school officials citing the same reason.
