Carterville officials met yesterday to discuss restoring the downtown area damaged by fire two weeks ago.
Ameren Illinois pledged $28,300 dollars to rewire the downtown area.
Carterville Mayor Bill Mausey says several other repairs and improvements to the downtown area are also necessary.
"If we lose downtown, then where will you have your Christmas (parade)? Where do you have your pumpkin patch?" Mausey says. "Where do you have the things that really brings the family together and makes Carterville that family community?"
New telephone lines and new street lights were a couple items Mausey says he wants to see downtown. He says he hopes the repairs will be completed within a year.
