The former President of Rend Lake College has taken a plea deal to avoid two felony charges.
Mark Kern pled guilty to a misdemeanor charge of resisting a police officer and will receive two years of conditional discharge. He will also spend two days in jail.
Two felony charges of aggravated assault and aggravated discharge of a firearm were dropped, along with a misdemeanor charge of battery.
The case revolves around a 911 call made in 2010s that said Kern nudged a woman with a gun and shot her car, then refused to drop the gun when police responded.
Kern’s wife says he only fired the gun as a warning shot to get the woman to leave their property.
