Pension Talks

Gov. Pat Quinn says he's prepared to call a special session on pensions but Senate President John Cullerton and House Speaker Michael Madigan have to set aside their differences on the issue.
Madigan and Cullerton had dueling plans to fix the nearly $100 billion pension crisis. But the House-backed plan failed in the Senate and Cullerton's plan remained in House committee until Friday when lawmakers adjourned for the summer.
Quinn and Cullerton met Tuesday morning. Madigan was invited but did not attend or participate via phone. A spokesman says Madigan is out of state.
Quinn says Madigan doesn't have a cell phone and is unreachable. The governor says he left a message with Madigan's wife.
Quinn backs the Madigan plan and says he told Cullerton a solution is needed quickly.
