A federal judge has struck down major components of the state's effort to dismiss a case that aims to keep the Murray Center open in Centralia.
The lawsuit filed by the Murray Parents’ Association and developmentally disabled groups now moves forward.
Gov. Pat Quinn wants to close the facility as part of a strategy to save money and have more community-based care for people with disabilities.
But Judge Marvin Aspen ruled the state hasn’t proven moving residents to community based care is less costly.
Hearings are set to begin in Jan. 6 in federal court.
