Murphysboro is receiving $2.4 million dollars for water main construction.
The main that will be replaced runs along Route 149 from the city’s water tower to Walnut Street and is over 100 years old.
The money is part of a Clean Water project Gov. Pat Quinn alluded to in his State of the State Speech.
Murphysboro opened up bids for the project Wednesday, and construction will begin within 60 days once a bid is accepted.
