Mike Murphy

Mike has been at WJPF in various capacities since 1974 when he was hired as a part-time board operator. He has been the News & Sports Director, Program Director and was General Manager on two separate occasions during the 1980's.

Mike is a native of Herrin and graduate of Herrin High School, John A. Logan College and SIU. He has been the Radio Voice of the Herrin Tigers for over 35 years and has also done play-by-play for John A. Logan Basketball, Baseball & Softball as well as SIU Football, Basketball and Baseball. Mike also was News & Sports Director at KVEC-AM in San Luis Obispo, California in 1983 where he did the play-by-play for the Cal Poly Mustangs in football, basketball and baseball.

 Mike and his broadcast partner Scott Hudson have twice won Silver Dome Awards for Best Play-by-Play for Medium Market Radio from the Illinois Radio Broadcasters Association and also won a Silver Dome Award for Best Radio Team for Medium Market Radio for hosting SportsVoice.

 Mike was the recipient of the 2001 Merle Jones Award For Outstanding Sports Journalism presented by the Southern Illinois Coaches Association and is a member of the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame, inducted in 2007 in the media category.
 
Mike was also inducted into the Herrin High School Sports Hall of Fame in 2008 as "Friend to Tiger Athletics." 
 
Mike lives in Herrin with his wife, Angela.
