Menard Death

The death of a second inmate at Menard Correctional Center in the last month is being considered suspicious.

That’s according to Randolph County Coroner Randy Dudenbostel, who says 64-year-old Yusuf Abuzir died Monday morning in the prison’s healthcare unit.

Results are still pending from an autopsy performed yesterday.

25-year-old Jason Hall was found dead at Menard Jan. 31, and his death is also still under investigation.

State Rep. Mike Bost says the two deaths are from the same altercation.

"From my understanding, because I checked on this right away and I want my information to be correct, but it's still the same situation," Bost says. "You have inmate-on-inmate violence and you have inmate-on-guard violence."

Bost says the violence is a result of prison overcrowding caused by Gov. Pat Quinn's closure of prison facilities.
