Medical Delays

Healthlink, Illinois’ medical insurance provider for state employees, says its going to increase its funding delay from 23 weeks to 40 weeks.

In order to adjust its payment schedule, this means medical providers who have clients with Healthlink won’t see payments for 17 weeks.

Linda Benton with P and L Medical Claims says this will rough on medical providers, especially smaller hospitals.

"Some providers will not survive this," Benton says. "Other providers will have to get loans and what-have-you."

She also says this could push doctors out of the area.

"What I'm afraid could potentially happen is we're going to see doctors move away from the state and places will close down because they're not going to be able to pay their employees or their overhead (costs)," Benton says.

The change means medical service providers won’t see money from the state until June.
