McKinney Pleads Not Guilty

A former Buckner Police Officer appeared in a Benton courtroom Wednesday, but this time William McKinney was in handcuffs.

Judge Paul Lamar read the three charges against him; battery, official misconduct and involuntary manslaughter. Attorney Bryan Drew entered the same plea for each: Not Guilty.

William McKinney sat silently during his arraignment Wednesday morning.

Authorities say McKinney killed Roy Barnhart with a blow to the head on July 7, after the former police officer responded to a call to break up a fight.

The state’s attorneys office has asked for a November trial in the case. A pretrial hearing is set for September 25.
