A man from Carbondale will serve 12-and-a-half years in federal prison after pleading guilty to five different charges.
41-year-old Kerry Smith was sentenced Thursday for engaging in illegal monetary transactions for his part in a marijuana distribution ring. He is also charged with concealing information from the Social Security Administration and two counts of making false sentences.
U.S. Attorney Stephen Wigginton says that Smith was ordered to forfeit $790,000, an additional $10,576 in cash and other property, eight residences in Carbondale and two vehicles.
Smith sold marijuana in Jackson County from 2001 to 2007.
