In White County, the man accused of shooting a woman from Indiana to death and dumping her body in a cornfield is now formally charged with murder.
Twenty-five-year-old Thomas Davidson made his first court appearance Monday in Carmi. He's charged with first-degree murder, aggravated battery with a firearm, aggravated vehicular hijacking and aggravated discharge of a firearm.
Authorities say 58-year-old Sandra Burkhardt of Poseyville, Ind., was last seen leaving a store Friday night in Indiana's Gibson County. Investigators believe Davidson forced her into Illinois a short time later and shot her four times near Crossville, then crashed her car in Indiana.
Indiana police arrested Davidson Saturday while investigating burglaries.
