A local festival is being honored as the best in state.
HerrinFesta Italiana won the award during the Governor’s Conference on Travel and Tourism earlier this month, beating out every other festival in 2013.
Cris Trapani is the president of the festival. He talks about the work that goes into booking the musical acts.
“As we work so hard, sometimes, the fruits of our labor produces something like Florida Georgia Line," Trapani says. "Which is, of course, good choices on those people's part. And of course, good timing, it just happened to work out with Florida Georgia Line getting so popular early last year with their music.”
Trapani thanks all the volunteers for their efforts during the festival, which is held around Memorial Day every year.
He also thanked the City of Herrin, the Chamber of Commerce and the Civic Center.
