Hazardous Spill

Part of I-64 near Centralia is open again after a truck spilled a small amount of nitric acid on the road Tuesday night.

Illinois State Police Trooper David Sneed says the product was transported by Miller Transporters Incorporated out of Memphis.

Several crews responded to a call at 9:30 last night that the truck was leaking nitric acid. Part of I-64 was closed until 5:15 this morning while crews cleaned up the spill.

One house was evacuated as well and others in the area were warned about the material, but cleanup is complete with no injuries reported and traffic has resumed.

Illinois State Police continue to investigate the cause of the leak.
