Gun Control Debates

Some Illinois House Republicans have shown their disapproval for the debate style the chamber recently adopted to discuss changes to Illinois' existing conceal carry ban.

Republicans Wednesday called the process malign, flawed and dilatory. It was taken up on orders from House Speaker Michael Madigan The process addresses potential changes individually as opposed to full bills.

In December, a three-judge federal panel struck down Illinois' ban and gave legislators until June to legalize conceal carry.

Wednesday's debate lasted four hours with tempers flaring. Some Republicans kicked and pounded their desks. The debate came the same day Gov. Pat Quinn says he wants Attorney General Lisa Madigan to appeal the issue to the U.S. Supreme Court.

But Madigan says she wants to wait and see what lawmakers do on the issue.
