The Republican was appointed to the Human Rights Commission by Democratic Governor Pat Quinn. If Cole’s appointment is approved by the state Senate, Cole will earn $47,000 a year to help the commission act on human rights violations.
His term in the part-time role would expire in January 2017, if approved.
Cole says he will keep his job as Vice President of the Pepsi Mid-America branch in Marion. He was mayor of Carbondale from 2003 to 2011 and also worked with Senator Mark Kirk and Former Governor George Ryan.
