A fatal house fire in Metropolis is deemed accidental.
Metropolis Fire Chief Jason Morris says the fire that killed 80-year-old Betty Bowman likely started because of a lit cigarette in bed.
The investigation will continue. Visitation for Betty J. Bowman will be from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m Thursday, March 14 at Aikins-Farmer Funeral Home in Metropolis. Funeral services will begin at noon, immediately following the visitation.
