23 groups are upset with Attorney General Mike Carr’s decision to continue to prosecute a woman who is accused of making a false police report.
The woman made a claim of sexual assault that resulted in no charges for the man accused in the case. Former State’s Attorney Mike Wiepsiec filed charges of filing a false police report in May.
The letter to Carr’s office says the message of this case is that survivors of sexual assault must prove their case or risk prosecution.
Carr says there’s still probable cause to investigate the matter.
The woman will have a pre-trial hearing March 12.
