State officials say there is a more than 60-day wait for an Illinois Firearm Owner's Identification card.
Illinois State Police spokeswoman Monique Bond says more than 70,000 FOID card applications have been received so far this month, on-track to be a program record.
The (Elgin) Courier-News reports state police received 338,610 FOID applications last year.
Greg Tropino Sr., of GAT Guns in East Dundee, says his customers contend the wait for a card is more than the 64 days the state police says. Tropino noted customers are reporting having to wait 10 to 15 weeks for a card that is supposed to be in their hands in 30 days or less.
Data provided by state police to The (Champaign) News-Gazette indicates there about 1.5 million state residents with FOID cards.
