Congressman Bill Enyart will be in Carbondale today to discuss the recent cuts by the FAA to airports like the Southern Illinois Airport.
He will speak at the SIU Transportation Education Center today to speak with officials regarding the closures of air traffic control towers.
He says in a letter to FAA Admininstrator Michael Huerta that the cuts have a severe impact on the aviation program at SIU.
He also says that the cuts would put 175 jobs in jeopardy.
Williamson County Regional Airport could also see its air traffic control tower shut down on September 30th.
The FAA plans to close 149 federal contract towers beginning April 7 because of the Sequester. This interactive-map shows the number of air traffic control towers by state that will be closed.
