Energy Police have arrested a Herrin man for pulling a loaded gun on a police officer.
That happened just after midnight Wednesday on South 18th Street.
According to Energy Police, 36-year-old James Bell was walking in the middle of the road when a police officer ordered him to take his hands out of the pockets of his hoodie. Police say Bell pulled out a handgun and started to raise it, when the officer gave a final warning to drop the weapon or be shot.
Bell dropped the gun, and was arrested for aggravated unlawful use of a weapon.
Energy Police Chief Shawn Ladd says the officer involved in the incident was assisting Herrin Police in their investigation of a recent rash of break-ins when Bell was arrested.
