A debate on the state budget is expected Tuesday.
With that debate, lawmakers are expected to finalize numbers for education funding.
House Democrats say the cuts to education won’t be as severe as the cuts Gov. Pat Quinn proposed in his budget. Quinn proposed a $400-million dollar cut, with about $100-million of that coming from higher education.
According to reports, SIU could see its aid from the state drop to $194.4 million dollars, which is a little under a $20-million dollar reduction from 2012.
