Crosby Film "White Christmas" Showing at Liberty Theater in Murphysboro

Bing Crosby in “WHITE CHRISTMAS”, the classic holiday movie, will  be
on the big screen on Friday and Saturday, December 21 and 22 at 7:00 p.m. at the Historic Liberty Theater in downtown Murphysboro. Danny Kaye, Vera Ellen and Rosemary Clooney join the crooner in a musical that is beautifully choreographed,
costumed, and scripted.

Then, on Friday, December 28,  it’s  the first of two children’s matinees, with the classic tale, “Johnny Appleseed”, the legend of a real man (John Chapman)  who believed the apple was a valuable crop as settlers moved west.

On Saturday, December 29,  it’s the heart-stopping, happy- ending  story of an injured thoroughbred horse, a dysfunctional family and a little girl who had a dream.   It’s “Dreamer”, of course.

Matinees are at 2:00 p.m. and admission is by donation. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.  Concessions are available for $1.00.

All event  proceeds benefit the all volunteer on-going restoration project of the Liberty, which is now a National Historic Site.

Opening as the Tilford in 1913, it was closed, taken over by the City of Murphysboro for payment of taxes, and eventually was adopted by an all volunteer entity.   The Historic Liberty is available for event rentals. For more information on dates, rates and equipment, please contact Lois Murphy, Director, at (618) 684-
