Beginning next week, people without health insurance will be able to sign up for coverage through new online health exchanges.
But there’s a lot of uncertainty surrounding the President’s health care overhaul in Illinois.
Officials haven't revealed the prices of the plans, so consumers still don't know which insurers will offer coverage.
Courtney Hedderman of AARP Illinois says all the publicity is confusing those on Medicare as well.
“People are seeing those messages and asking, ‘Wait, do I need to do something?’” Hedderman said. “They don’t. That has nothing to do with medicare.”
The confusion surrounds the start of the Medicare open-enrollment period, which is on October 15th. Medicare is sending out brochures to explain to the elderly that they should ignore anything about the online health exchange.
