A man from Christopher faces charges of aggravated DUI after a crash that injured five Tuesday night.
63-year-old John Meinert faces the charges after his car swerved into the opposite lane of traffic on Illinois 14 west of Christopher around 8 p.m. His car struck another car carrying four people, all of whom were taken to Herrin Hospital with major injuries.
Meinert was airlifted to a St. Louis hospital, according to Franklin County Sheriff Don Jones.
A second man, 46-year-old David Pickering, received a DUI after he failed to stop at a stop sign while officers were directing traffic around the crash site.
