Herrin, Ill. – A woman from Herrin has been found guilty of involuntary manslaughter for the death of her child six years ago.

A jury says 24-year-old Karrae Starr is not guilty of first degree murder, however, the charge prosecutors were originally seeking. Starr’s attorney says Starr suffocated her three-year-old daughter, Bianca, in 2008, on accident. He says the intent was to punish Bianca, not kill her.

This is the second time Starr has been on trial for the death of Bianca. She was convicted of first degree murder in 2010 but an appellate court tossed the conviction out in 2012.

A sentencing date for Starr will be set next week. The State’s Attorney’s office says she could see anywhere between three to 14 years in prison.
