A Tennessee man had to be airlifted from the scene of a wreck on Interstate 24 in Massac County early Sunday morning.

It happened in the westbound lanes near milepost 33.

According to State Police, Thomas Johnson lost control of his truck and swerved off the road to the right. Johnson over corrected, crossing back over the interstate, and leaving the roadway on the left side, hitting a guard rail. The impact cause Johnson’s vehicle to layover on its side blocking both lanes of traffic.

A tractor trailer was unable to stop in time and hit Johnson’s overturned vehicle.

Johnson was flown to a Cape Girardeau hospital. The driver of the second truck was treated for minor injuries.
