Senate Bill 1 is headed back to the Illinois House of Representatives after the Illinois Senate voted 38-19 yesterday to override Governor Bruce Rauner’s amendatory veto.

The bill would change the way Illinois funds public schools – and a change in that funding formula is required before any of our local school districts get general state aid payments this school year.

Yesterday’s vote doesn’t mean a resolution of the issue is imminent.

The House now gets 15 days to take up the measure. That would put the deadline at Aug. 28. The House is in session Wednesday – Democrats there will need to recruit Republicans to have enough votes.
