After days of heavy rain and rising water, three counties in the area have made formal declarations of disaster.

The Franklin County Board making the decision late Monday. The Jackson, and Williamson County Boards made their decisions Tuesday.

In Franklin County, a disaster resource center will open it’s doors at 9 a.m. Wednesday in the lobby of the West Frankfort Public Safety Building.

The center is open to all Franklin County residents affected by the flooding.

Local and nongovernmental agencies will be on hand to give information and collect damage reports.
Food, cleanup kits, and other resources will be available from the Red Cross.

In Jackson County, the former Curwood Plant on North 19th Street in Murphysboro will again be open Wednesday for residents who need sandbags to defend their homes against the rising waters.
