Southern Illinois Democrats are expressing frustration at the way the Legislative session ended in Springfield with an eleventh hour budget proposal from the governor’s office.

Representative Brandon Phelps tells Newsradio WJPF that the governor’s staff had to know a 1,000 page proposal couldn’t be passed in one evening…

Rauner traveled to Vienna yesterday to call for a short-term budget fix and a bill funding K through 12 education.

Appearing with Rauner at the Vienna Correctional Center on Wednesday morning, State Senator Jason Barickman pushed for a standalone bill he introduced that would end cuts to district by fully funding them under the existing funding formula —

Although there are two alternate school funding plans currently on the table.

Barickman said his measure would also ensure each school district gets at least as much as it received for the current year.

Rainer will continue his two-day tour of the state today. State Democrats say they will consider the stop gap proposals the governor is backing.

The House is expected back in Springfield next week. The next fiscal year begins July 1.
