The Department of Corrections is investigating an inmate assault against a staff member in a Vienna Correctional Center.

The incident occurred on Friday and led to a lockdown of the center.

According to WSIL, the prison guard was by herself when she was attacked.

The inmate was put in confinement and will be sent to the Menard Correctional Center in Chester.

Representing prison workers is the union AFSME, and they state lack of staff is a safety concern for prisons of the whole state.
